Research interests

I work on effective two dimensional theories for thin multi-layered materials and their optimal configurations. Currently I am working on a discretization scheme using FEniCS.

In the past I've worked with contact problems in linear elasticity, in particular I investigated some properties of the coincidence set for the classical Signorini problem and studied the mathematical properties of the two body problem together with some numerical computations, using the open source toolbox DUNE.

Other scientific interests

I devote much of my free time to machine learning. I like to focus on its more rigorous aspects, in particular statistical learning theory but I tend to spend more time with the implementation of algorithms and actual applications.

Since 2010 I've been contributing to the open source project TeXmacs, a scientific editing platform written mainly in C++ and Scheme. You can visit my page at the project's site for more info or send me an email to mdbenito AT texmacs DOT org.

If you are interested in collaborating in any of these things or have any ideas for a talk or project don't hesitate to drop me a line.
