»Grothendieck-Witt theory in geometric topology«

Abstract:
In this survey talk, directed to non-experts, I will explain some formal analogies between concepts in high-dimensional geometric topology on the one hand, and algebraic K-theory and specifically Grothendieck-Witt theory on the other hand. This has led to a fruitful exchange of techniques between these two, at first sight rather different, fields.
