| Abstract: |
| In this talk we address some recent developments in the quantitative understanding of almost minimizers/approximate critical points in variational problems exhibiting conformal invariance, whose typically non-compact nature leads to several intricate analytical and topological phenomena. We will focus on two prominent such examples, namely (n-) harmonic maps on the (n-) sphere, and the (2-dimensional) parametric problem for H-surfaces. We discuss analogies and differences in the two problems, connections with other relevant problems appearing in geometric analysis and mathematical physics, and highlight how the dimension of the space, the choice of norms/deficits and most importantly the topology of solutions influence the stability estimates and their optimality. This talk is based on previous joint works with S. Luckhaus, J. Hirsch, and some more recent ones in collaboration with A. Guerra and X. Lamy. |
