»Stability of the free boundary Willmore problem«

Abstract:
We study the Willmore flow with free boundary by means of a new Lojasiewicz-Simon gradient inequality for functionals on infinite-dimensional manifolds. We show that solutions starting sufficiently close to a local minimizer exist for all times and converge. As an application, we obtain quantitative stability of free boundary Willmore immersions and a local rigidity result in a neighborhood of free boundary minimal surfaces. In this talk, I'll present our flexible proof strategy, addressing in particular: suitably fixing a gauge for the geometric problem, prescribing the nonlinear higher-order boundary conditions by means of an infinite-dimensional manifold, and reducing the stability analysis to the well-posedness of an elliptic boundary problem via the abstract Lojasiewicz-Simon inequality.

Hierzu ergeht herzliche Einladung.
