| This talk introduces finite element methods for partial differential equations in nondivergence form. They are based on a minimal residual principle that builds upon the Alexandrov-Bakelman-Pucci estimate for strong solutions. Convergence of conforming and nonconforming methods in the maximum norm is established under uniform mesh refinements. The build-in a posteriori error estimator can be utilized in the design of adaptive mesh-refining strategies. As an application, we consider the degenerate Monge-Ampère equation. |
