»Contact isometric embeddings«

Abstract:
The celebrated Nash-Kuiper theorem states that any short embedding between Riemannian manifolds of dimension n and m can be approximated by C1 isometric embeddings, as soon as the target dimension m>n. This result has been extended to C1,alpha isometric embeddings, although the optimal alpha>0 is still unknown. In the talk I will discuss extensions of the Nash-Kuiper theorem to C1,alpha isometric embeddings between contact manifolds equipped with a Carnot-Caratheodory metric.
