Abstract: |
Rayleigh–Bloch (RB) waves are a class of solutions of the Helmholtz equation that arise in one-dimensional configurations of cylindrical particles with an infinite number of scatterers in a periodic arrangement. A characteristic of RB waves is that they are strongly localised to the scatterers. There is a strong connection between existence of RB-wave solutions in an infinite configuration and the waves induced in finite arrays by the forcing of an incident wave. This connection can be exploited to design finite configurations that manipulate the induced waves to have particular desired properties. Motivated by design of finite configurations that employ variations in the scatterer properties to manipulate the induced waves, we discus the application of advanced computational methods for computing RB waves in both finite and infinite configurations. The fundamental tool employed in both cases is a numerically stable approach for approximating radiating fields using wavefunction expansions. |
