»Symplectic invariants and dynamical complexity«

Abstract:
One important measure of the complexity of a dynamical system is the topological entropy. It is a non-negative number associated with a dynamical system which quantifies the exponential instability of the system, and serves as a bridge between the topological and measure-theoretic approaches to dynamics. Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms and Reeb flows are fundamental classes of dynamical systems at the crossroads of differential geometry, symplectic topology and mathematical physics. In this talk, I will explain how the use of symplectic topological techniques has led to important progress in our understanding of the topological entropy of such systems, highlighting recent results obtained with collaborators.
