»Mathematical Approach to Magnetic Monopoles with Yang-Mills theory«

Abstract:
Magnetic monopoles are purely hypothetic, but their existence offers some deep connections in physics and their description offers a rich theory in mathematics. One of them is Yang–Mills theory, which uses the concept of principal bundles in mathematics, especially differential geometry, to describe the concept of symmetry in physics, especially gauge theory. A central question arising from this in general, but also the classification of magnetic monopoles in particular, is the effect on Yang–Mills theory under a change of the gauge group and what changes to Yang–Mills theory make it vanish.
