»Geometry of equivariant linear neural networks«

Abstract:
The function space of an artificial neural network is the set of functions that the network can represent. Its structure depends on the architecture of the network. For linear networks, the function space is an algebraic variety. I am going to introduce the overall setup and describe properties and parameterizations of the subvarieties of maps that are equi- or invariant under the action of a permutation group. I also present implications for network design. This talk is based on the joint work arXiv:2309.13736 with K. Kohn and V. Shahverdi.
