Abstract: |
Periodic orbits of a classical Hamiltonian can be analysed as Reeb orbits on an energy hypersurface in phase space or as trajectories in position space. Depending on the perspective an orbit is characterised by its Morse or spectral Conley-Zehnder index. We argue that (also in the case of degenerate orbits) the two indices are related as CZ − Morse = N/2 + k where N = [nullity]−[transverse nullity] controls the correction term k in such a way that CZ−Morse ∈ {0, 1}. The proof uses an extended formulation of the Robbin-Salamon index in terms of ’mildly irregular’ crossings. |
