| Non-linear sigma models are described variationally by an action functional for maps into a fixed target manifold.abouzaid@stanford.edu Furthermore, one can also study the gauged version of that action functional, which leads to many interesting applications including magnetic skyrmions. In my talk, I will explain how symplectic gauge theory is used to simplify and study the problem of finding critical points of the gauged action functional. If the target manifold is a complex projective space, we also argue that these critical points exist and are given by holomorphic maps for a suitable complex structure. |
