We provide a method to
find obstacles for the planar circular
restricted three-body
problem to be of contact type for small mass ratios. In particular, explicit sequences of ordinary non-degenerate second species generating orbits with action tending towards negative infi nity and Hamiltonian energies in $[-\sqrt{2}; 0)$ are constructed. These orbits all belong to one family of generating orbits and they are shown to be shadowed in the restricted three-body problem for small mass ratios by orbits with the same energy and similar action. So far, there have not been found contractible orbits with negative action.
Nonetheless, these orbits provide obstructions via the first de Rham cohomology of the corresponding energy level sets, using the canonical Liouville one-form.
It is shown that
in these terms a contact form needs to change in nitely often as the mass ratio tends to zero.
