Abstract: |
In this talk I will discuss the techniques I developped in the recent years with Hermen Jan Hupkes for studying traveling waves in stochastic reaction-diffusion equations. After a short introduction into the deterministic theory for travelling waves, I'll show how we define a phase for the stochastic wave, and how this leads to a natural definition for a stochastic travelling wave. These stochastic travelling waves can be shown to be very regular perturbations of the deterministic speed and profile of the wave. Furthermore, our framework allows us to prove theorems on the stability and we have strong conjectures on the long time dynamics of the solutions. The theoretical development is backed by simulations, which show how our theory can be applied to equations such as the (FitzHugh-)Nagumo equation. |
