»Finiteness of the number of relative equilibria in the 5 body problem (with Vadim KALOSHIN)«

Abstract:
I will explain our result of 2011, and propose some ideas for further researches on the subject. We have shown that the number of relative equilibria of the 5 body problem is finite, except perhaps if the masses satisfy certain algebraic relationships. The 6th Smale problem for the 21st century is the finiteness of number of planar central configurations for any choice of positive masses. The problem was posed by Chazy in 1918, then by Wintner 1941. Hampton and Moeckel resolved it in 2004 when n = 4. We begin by proving their result in a simpler way.
