Abstract: |
Hamiltonian monodromy was introduced by Duistermaat in his work on global action-angle coordinates. Since then this invariant has received considerable interest and has been generalized in various directions, including quantum mechanics and scattering theory. In this talk, we review Duistermaat's notion of Hamiltonian monodromy and show how one can compute this invariant by comparing Chern numbers of appropriate energy levels. The idea behind this result goes back to F. Takens. We explain it on a few examples. Connections of the result to some other approaches to monodromy will also be discussed. This is a report on a joint work with H.W. Broer and K. Efstathiou. |
