»Automorphisms of manifolds and the involution on algebraic K-theory«

Abstract:
A remarkable fact about high-dimensional smooth manifolds M is that part of the homotopy type of the diffeomorphism group Diff(M) depends only on the underlying homotopy type of M. In my talk I will review how algebraic K-theory enters this picture and the special role played by the involution on it. Then I will talk about a new approach to understanding this involution via trace maps to Hochschild-type homology theories.
