The nature of the evolution of the Universe near the big bang singularity can be completely understood for a homogeneous and isotropic universe. This is done using regularization methods of classical celestial mechanics and dynamical systems together with using stochastic methods. The stochastic methods handle random perturbations near the big bang by using a stochastic version of the stable manifold theorem. Such perturbations could be, for example, quantum fluctuations. An interesting physical result from this shows that our universe could have resulted from the collapse of a previous universe provided a key parameter takes on special discrete values defined by relative prime numbers. |
