»New bounds on the toral rank with application to symplectic manifolds«

Abstract:
We investigate the topological implications of (almost) free torus actions on compact symplectic manifolds. Our findings motivate us to construct a lower bound for the dimension of the cohomology of a finite CW-complex with an (almost) free torus action that is particularly effective for symplectic manifolds. This proves the toral rank conjecture for compact symplectic manifolds of dimension 8 or less.
