| We examine a construction of an operator-theoretic model of the universal bundle for the stable general linear group, proposed by Dan Freed. The Atiyah-Jänich Theorem asserts that the space of Fredholm operators on an infinite dimensional complex separable Hilbert space classifies complex K-theory. We will produce a more complicated space, consisting of operators acting on a graded Hilbert space. The advantage is that our space admits the structure of a Banach-Lie group, eventually allowing us to write down explicit Chern-Weil type formulae that describe invariant differential forms which represent the Chern character components. It is possible to use the naturality of these constructions in order to proof that these forms have additional invariance properties in the setting of equivariant cohomology. |
