»Local rigidity and the Farrell-Jones conjecture«

Abstract:
In this talk we will outline the classical theory of deformations and local rigidity of lattices in semisimple Lie groups due to Weil and others. We move on to explain how this theory can be exploited to prove the Farrell-Jones conjecture in algebraic K- and L-theory for all lattices in virtually connected Lie groups.
