Abstract: |
Integrable Killing tensors are used to classify orthogonal coordinates in which the classical Hamilton-Jacobi equation can be solved by a separation of variables. We establish purely algebraic equations characterising the integrability of Killing tensors on constant curvature manifolds and solve them explicitly for the 3-sphere. The description of this solution as a projective variety allows us to recover the classification of separable coordinate systems. We show that the classification space is isomorphic to a certain moduli space of stable curves with marked points. Several generalisations of this result will be proposed. |
