»A heat flow for positive 3-forms on a 7-manifold«

Abstract:
Riemannian metrics with holonomy in G_2 on a 7-manifold are induced by a positive 3-form which is torsion-free. On the space of such positive 3-forms we study a natural energy functional whose critical points are precisely the torsion-free ones. We establish short-time existence for the negative gradient flow and a local stability result near a torsion-free form. This is joint work with Frederik Witt.
