Abstract: |
The Eigenvalue Problem asks to describe the possible eigenvalues of a triple of traceless hermitian matrices whose sum is zero. This problem can be translated to geometric terms to the study of polygons in the symmetric space associated to $SL(n,\C)$. This geometric problem can be generalized to any symmetric space of noncompact type. The same question can also be asked about polygons in Euclidean buildings, which are the relatives of symmetric spaces in the world of singular metric spaces. |
