Do 15.04.: Art, Chaos and a New Route to the Moon

Donnerstag, 25.  April  2019 Uhr, Zeughaus, Reichlesaal 116
Dr. Edward Belbruno (Mathematik)

In 1991 a Japanese lunar mission was dramatically rescued by finding a new route to the Moon. The path for the spacecraft, Hiten, was the first to utilize chaos mathematics. The discovery of this route, however, was not inspired by mathematics, but by a painting! In this talk, I’ll describe how this is possible. More recently, a new route to Mars is described as well as some related applications in astrophysics, such as the origin of life on Earth.

Dieser Vortrag findet auf Englisch statt und wird von Prof. Frauenfelder simultan übersetzt.
