»Numerical Analysis for Constrained PDEs«

Abstract:
Abstract: In this talk, we consider constrained PDE systems and motivate their formulation as differential-algebraic equations in Banach spaces. After presenting several examples and applications, we discuss the need of consistent initial data. In the second part, we analyse two time discretization schemes. First, we consider the implicit Euler discretization. It turns out that, in the weak setting, only the 'differential variables' converge. Second, we introduce a splitting approach to deal with constrained reaction-diffusion systems with a nonlinear reaction term. More precisely, we observe a reduction of the convergence order for Strang splitting, which we aim to overcome.
