Quantum master equations of Lindblad type are frequently used to model the dynamics of open quantum systems. We will show that, in the case of detailed balance, all Lindblad operators entropic gradient flows with respect to the relative von Neumann entropy. The corresponding Riemannian metric for the density matrices can be viewed as a non-commutative analog of the 2-Wasserstein metric for probability distributions. We will give applications to thermodynamic consistent modelling of quantum dot semiconductor devices. |
