»On the approximation of SBV functions«

Abstract:
In this talk we will recall the nowadays classical definition of SBV and SBVp functions, and we will briefly explain why this space is extremely useful for several applications, starting with the Mumford-Shah-type problems. We will then focus ourselves on the approximation issue: we will discuss the classical approximation results, and we will present a recent, stronger one. At the end, we will also discuss some still open questions (joint work with De Philippis and Fusco).
