| For a compact Lie group, the G-equivariant Bordism is a functor between the category of topological spaces with continuous G-action and the category of abelian group. The G-equivariant bordism is defined in terms of equivalence classes of compact, smooth manifolds with smooth G-action. Therefore equivariant bordisms become a tool to classify compact, smooth manifolds with smooth G-action. The computation of equivariant bordism is difficult; using fixed points one can try to reduce some parts of the computation to the non-equivariant case. In this talk I give an introduction to the theory of equivariant bordism. In addition I describe the role of fixed points. As an example I reduce the computation of Z_2-equivariant bordism to the non-equivariant case. Finally, using similar tools as if G is Z_2, I reduce some parts the computation of Z_4-equivaraint bordism to the non-equivariant case and compute some low-dimensional Z_4-bordism groups. |
