| Let X be a highly connected Poincare complex of dimension 2n-1 (n even, n > 3), where H_(n-1)(X) is isomorphic to a finite cyclic group. We give necessary and sufficient conditions such that X is homotopy equivalent to the total space of a spherical fibration over a sphere. As a corollary we will show that if X is a (2n-1)-manifold with n = 4,6,0 mod 8 and standard linking form, then X has the homotopy type of an S^(n-1) fibration over S^n. |
