Abstract: |
The weak stability boundary is a region, in phase space, about a given mass point for the the n-body problem, n > 2. It is algorithmically defined. This defines a complex region where the particle is weakly captured and close to escape. First defined in 1985, later work in 2004 indicated that this region was associated to a hyperbolic invariant set associated to parabolic motion in the three-body problem. In 2010, results indicated that this region was equivalent to a network of hyperbolic manifolds associated to Lyapunov periodic orbits about Lagrange points. These regions have important applications to spacecraft motion and in astrophysics. |
