Associate Member of the Cognitive Science Section, Institute of Psychology, University of Graz, Universitätsplatz 2 / III, A-8010 Graz, Austria

I am currently a University Assistant (comparable to Assistant Professor) in the Department of Computer-Oriented Statistics and Data Analysis of the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Augsburg, Germany. My work here in this Department is in computational and graphical statistics, especially applied in psychometrics and psychophysics. In May 2009, I have completed my Habilitation (Dr. habil.), a postdoctoral university degree with lecture qualification, at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Augsburg. In the period 1993-2000, I studied Mathematics (primarily specializing in Functional Analysis, Topology, Measure Theory, Probability Theory, and Statistics) and Experimental and Theoretical Physics (primarily specializing in Statistical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Quantum Mechanics) at the University of Technology Darmstadt, Germany. I received my Diplom in Mathematics (Dipl.-Math.) in 2000 from the University of Technology Darmstadt. In the period 2000-2006, I studied Quantitative Psychology (primarily specializing in Probabilistic Knowledge Space Theory and Item Response Theory) as a Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Cognitive Science Section of the Institute of Psychology at the University of Graz, Austria. In the period 2002-2004, I completed a doctoral study in Applied Mathematics at the Graz University of Technology, Austria, receiving the Doctor of Technical Sciences (Dr.techn.) with an interdisciplinary dissertation on Statistical Model Selection in the Psychometric Theory of Knowledge Spaces.
My research focuses on the mathematical and statistical foundations in the Quantitative Behavioral Sciences. My research interests, so far, have been in the areas of Applied Statistics and Mathematics, Knowledge Space Theory, Parametric and Nonparametric Item Response Theory, Latent Class Analysis, Skills or Competencies Based Knowledge Space Theory and Latent Variable Modeling, Model Selection, Data Analysis, Abstract Fechnerian Scaling and Dissimilarity Cumulation in Psychophysics of Discrimination, Statistical Interactive Graphics and Visualization, and Software Development.
Since October 2007, I am appointed Associate Editor of the European Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics.

For students: You can contact me for possible software internships (e.g., see here (in German)).
You can also contact me for interesting possible Diplom or PhD theses.
