»Astromathematics«

Abstract:
In astrophysics, large stellar systems such as galaxies or globular clusters are often modeled by a nonlinear system of partial differential equations, which in mathematics is known as the Vlasov-Poisson system. In my talk I will first present this system and some of its basic mathematical properties.Then I will discuss some more recent developments and results which are related to current problems in astrophysics such as the "missing mass problem". If desired I can also comment on the somewhat unusual title of my talk.
