Fifth International Conference on Finite Fields and Applications August 2 - 6, 1999 University of Augsburg, Germany

Generous donations from our corporate sponsors (see below) will allow us to provide a limited number of travel grants to help graduate students and recent postdocs with local expenses; this is intended to enable those to attend the conference who would otherwise be prevented by financial considerations from doing so. If you are in need of assistance, please apply to us, outlining your situation, by February 15, 1999; notification of grants will be given by April 15.
Additionally, there is a scheme by the German Research Council (DFG) which is intended to help researchers from Middle and Eastern Europe and the former USSR to attend conferences in Germany. We have to apply for these funds on an individual basis. Hence, if you are eligible for this type of support, you should send us an application letter including a valid reason why you are interested in this particular meeting; this letter should reach us at the latest by December 15, 1998. The DFG can cover the conference fees, a per diem (DM 124) and partial support towards travel expenses (up to DM 400). There are restrictions on the number of participants per country and on the maximum total support; hence we may have to make a selection from the applications received. We hope to have a decision from the DFG by April 15, 1999.

I. By airplane:

1. From Munich Airport:

(i) Take a shuttle bus directly from Franz-Josef-Strauß-Airport to Augsburg, Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station). Then follow the instructions under IV.

(ii) Take public transportation (S-Bahn, S1 or S8) from Franz-Josef-Strauß-Airport. Get off at Munich, Hauptbahnhof; (Main Railway Station). Take a train to Augsburg, Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station). Then follow instructions under IV.

2. From Augsburg Airport:

Take a shuttle bus directly from the airport to Augsburg, Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station) [see airport information desk for departures]. Then follow the instructions under IV..

II. By train:

Get off at Augsburg, Hauptbahnhof (Main Railway Station). Then follow the instructions under IV.

III. By car:

1. From Munich or Stuttgart (Autobahn A8):

Take the exit Augsburg-West, direction Füssen/Garmisch-Partenkirchen (B17) and proceed southwards to the exit NeueUniversität/Messezentrum. Turn right and proceed down Friedrich-Ebert-Straße to AlterPostweg. Turn right, the University of Augsburg is 500m upon the right.

2. From Munich or Lindau (Autobahn A96):

Take the exit Landsberg-Nord, direction Augsburg (B17) and proceed northwards to the exit NeueUniversität/Messezentrum. Turn right and proceed down Friedrich-Ebert-Straße to AlterPostweg . Turn right, the University of Augsburg is 500m upon the right.

IV. From Augsburg, Hauptbahnhof(Main Railway Station):

(i) Exit station and take a cab to Neue Universität.

(ii) Exit station, cross the Bahnhofsvorplatz (Railway Station Square) and turn right to the tramway stop. Take the 3 tramway to Universität (ticket can be purchased from the driver).
