Abstract: |
To see if a given metric is flat is easy – one just has to calculate its Riemannian curvature and check this is zero. But to find flat coordinates, the coordinates in which the components of the metric are constant, is harder: one has to solve a set of Gauss-Manin equations.
In this talk I will outline how to solve the Gauss-Manin equations for a class of metrics that define Hamiltonian structures of certain integrable systems, generalizations of the Korteweg-deVries equation. This will take one from the banks of a canal in Scotland – where solitons were first observed in the 19th Century, to cyclic quotient singularities, via certain algebraic structures known as Novikov algebras. |
Hierzu ergeht herzliche Einladung. |
